2012, the year of the torrent by Keoma Wright
A Blog about ADSL / Broadband and General Internet in South Africa 3 CommentsI always find it entertaining when in conversation with my non-computer savvy friends, they believe “Keoma is a a movie pirate!” I actually see this as a compliment in all honesty. Name me one child whom failed to have vivid visions of sailing the Somalian coastline with an AK47 and Bazuka gun aimed at a turquoise rubberduck boat, with the explicit intentions of capturing a mystical treasure from the 3 Cape Town fisherman who happened to stray into foreign waters. I know, I am off topic now, but seriously, not all torrent downloads are illegal!
As a proud torrent downloader, I feel that it is my duty to inform the non-torrenters that a torrent is merely a download technology. Eg. Like prison is a technology to discipline criminals. It is abused by only a select few, such as Selebi and Schaik, which gives it a bad name. (A silly example I know, but it was fun saying it never the less).
Back to the point – I feel that 2012 will be the year of the torrent. I’m sure everyone is finally over the boring dribble that covers our Walls. As for chirping, I did that inStandard 5. I feel everyone is going to discover the humble torrent, with a service that will make it easily accessible for the average Joe, Mary and Julius. Instead of exchanging pictures of our pussy cats and pill collections, we will be exchanging music, movies and graphics. The world will become a more intellectual dot in our vast universe. People will stop sharing stories of ingrown toenails and start sharing their video creations featuring ideas and concepts that could alter the world.
*Slap*
Dream on Keoma. MugBook is here to stay, and so is the blue bird. Torrents will always be condemned due to the Selebis and Schaiks. Perhaps 2012 will not be the year of the torrent; one thing is for sure though, it will be a torrent of a year!
